Afterpay Australian Fashion Week 2023

In May 2023, Alémais opened Afterpay Australian Fashion Week with a presentation of Resort '24, KABOOM. With an impressive performance, Alémais unveiled a stunning collection showcasing 69 looks. Floral motifs and vibrant color palettes characterize Alémais' designs. Inspired by the fashion era of the 60s and 70s, the designs showed a combination of nostalgic inspiration and contemporary and futuristic elements. The presentation reflected a play of contrasting textures, eye-catching prints and dynamic cuts that captured the essence of Alémais' artistic vision. Alémais' runway show was a kaleidoscope of bright colors and creative energy.

The Forest project

The desire to break the conventional model of the common 'take-make-waste' system is deeply rooted in Alémais' DNA. The Australian label is not only committed to environmentally friendly practices, but also actively combats environmental degradation. With the sale of every garment, a tree is planted and Alémais has already funded the planting of 200,000 trees - a sign of its commitment to protecting forests worldwide.

The materials of Alémais

Alémais' choice of materials is a balancing act between aesthetic elegance and environmental sustainability. The use of organic, recycled materials and monomaterials (89% of the materials are monomaterials) facilitates recycling and reduces the ecological footprint. Materials such as linen and hemp, which have less impact on the environment and are produced by traditional handcraft, find their way into Alémais' collections. Another pillar of the label's ethics is responsible sourcing. For example, the brand sources its wool from suppliers that meet the Responsible Wool Standard and thus prioritize the welfare of sheep.

Dyes and printing

Alémais is determined to leave a positive impact on the environment in the apparel industry, particularly in relation to dyes and printing processes, which often contribute to a significant amount of pollution. With a deep understanding of the fashion industry's impact on the environment, Alémais has taken concrete steps to minimize this impact. The fashion industry is responsible for a significant amount of wastewater worldwide, and much of it results from dyeing, washing and printing processes. Over 7000 synthetic dyes and inks are used in the industry, which unfortunately tend to end up in our waterways and pollute the ecosystems of our rivers and oceans. Alémais relies on responsible practices in the selection of its partners and suppliers to address this issue. By working with facilities that recycle and reuse much of their wastewater and effluent, as well as prioritizing the use of waterless printing techniques, Alémais actively minimizes its environmental impact. The entire Alémais printing process is 100% digital. This technique requires significantly fewer resources compared to traditional screen printing and other processes. Through digital printing, the brand significantly minimizes its ecological footprint and relies on a more environmentally friendly method to bring its artful designs to the materials. All Alémais materials are certified according to the OEKO-TEX Standard 100. This standard guarantees that the materials have been tested for known harmful chemicals. The Australian designer label goes one step further by ensuring that their dyes and inks are 100% free from harmful plastics and toxic PFOAs. This conscious decision underlines the brand's commitment to sustainable and environmentally friendly production practices.
